A few lessons can make a big difference in making you comfortable. You should choose a style of dance that fits with who you are as a couple - just because the most well known wedding dance is a waltz, that doesn't mean that you have to do it at your wedding. Visit a studio or a local social dancing venue, and see what style of dancing appeals to the two of you. You're going to be dancing for a whole song, so whatever you choose should be something that you find fun. I have personally seen first dances that were the Jr. High slow dance (rock back and forth in a circle), Waltz, Foxtrot, East Coast S, Lindy Hop, Tango, Blues and Cha Cha. Pretty much all of them were a success, because the people dancing were having a good time.

Finding an instructor who knows how to teach you to move in a wedding dress is helpful (one of those extra things you might not think of on your own).
One local Sacramento Studio with a large selection of dance styles, and good instructors is Spotlight Ballroom/Midtown Stomp. They offer group and private lessons in a variety of styles.
